Care Harbor promotes the health and well-being of underserved populations by creating new pathways to accessible, sustainable care.
Produced in partnership with the Power of Sight Foundation, this new vision care program is being successfully conducted in Los Angeles area public, charter and Catholic schools, with planning underway for expansion within the Los Angeles Unified School District. The need is enormous. An estimated 20-25% of school children have poor vision and need glasses.
Students receive eye exams at their school from licensed optometrists. Young people who need glasses choose their frames and prescription eyeglasses are made on site the same day. Everything is provided at no cost to families or schools.
Corrected vision improves classroom learning, increases reading speed and comprehension, builds confidence and a motivation to learn. The Sight for Success program is replicable and scalable to different school systems, settings and communities.
