The primary and specialty care medical evaluations provided at Care Harbor can diagnose conditions before they reach a more critical and costly stage. Outcomes may be improved and the burden on community safety net resources reduced. Care Harbor medical resources may include up to 40 exam rooms, diagnostic equipment, dispensary, lab, a women’s health section, mental health counseling and referrals, and other resources. Immunizations and screenings are provided.

Care Harbor clinics provide dental cleanings, fillings, extractions and other services. Dental care may also include root canals, crowns and partial dentures. Care Harbor events have up to100 dental chairs, mobile units and support equipment. An innovative preventive dentistry section is available to all patients – dental and non-dental – providing the preventive treatment, self-care resources and oral health education that help people avoid future dental problems.

Correct vision can mean the ability to drive, work, or see the board at school. Care Harbor provides vision exams and prescription eyeglasses at no charge to the patient. Ophthalmological exams are also available to non-vision patients for early detection of eye health problems. Care Harbor clinics include up to 20 eye exam lanes.

Many patients have conditions requiring evaluation and treatment beyond Care Harbor. Accessible, sustainable healthcare is our mission and coordinated follow-up care is part of every Care Harbor free clinic event. Representatives of local clinics and provider organizations are on site to make appointments for patients needing follow-up care, before the patient leaves the event. Care Harbor’s electronic medical record system helps assure the continuity of care, with patient diagnoses and treatment data provided to follow-up providers.

Prevention is the most effective and economical form of healthcare. Care Harbor events bring thousands of individuals without access to care under one roof at one time. It is a unique opportunity to provide them with the prevention resources and education that can lead to healthier lives. Care Harbor free clinics include counseling and materials on smoking cessation, nutrition, stress management, prenatal care, substance abuse and dozens of other subjects critical to health. Because our clinics are magnets for the uninsured, insurance navigators are on site to help patients learn about and enroll into coverage programs available to them.
